  • Refashioning Gymboree

A few years ago I would have never dreamt that I would be cutting up a pair of Gymbo pants. I was one of those "Gymbo moms" who shopped the sales and knew all the lines. Fast forward to now with my renewed love of sewing and new love of refashioning and the names go out the window! I have no problems cutting anything up! (Save for a few vintage pieces anyway  Wink)

I found these pants at the yard sale and didn't realize that they had a hole in the knee. They got tossed in to the "someday I will do something with them" pile until a few days ago when I pulled out a box of clothes that I was saving for my daughter's fall/winter wardrobe. I realized that I could cut them up and make a top so she could wear the striped pants now and into the winter so they wouldn't get outgrown without being worn at all.

Ok, without any more rambling, here are the pictures:

  • St. John's Skirt into little girl jumper

The corduroy skirt from yesterday got a pretty fast turn around  What do you think?

The buttons are not sewn on yet so it's sitting a little wonky, but you get the idea. Yeah, the pocket is a little wonky too, but Little One likes it anyway.

The back has the same blue as the lining because I missplaced the pattern when I was cutting it out, so to save the project I just attached some blue for contrast. Not too bad, I think

  • Today at the thrift

I really wasn't planning on hitting the thrift today but we had the time and I had cash in my pocket so off to the thrift we went.

First is a full size sheet with a cute floral print. I'm seeing a dress with this one, for me for once!

St. John's Bay corduroy skirt size 6, possibly a fall jumper for the Little One.

A pink floral pillowcase, this one will be a pillowcase top instead of a dress.

A Nautica bedskirt, this one has a nice fabric middle piece instead of the cheap polyester one that cheap bedskirts have so that will probably become a lining for the dress I want to make out of the first sheet. The ruffle will become toddler skirts, many of them!!

And last a Gymboree sweater. Don't worry, this one isn't going to get cut up. I will wash it tonight and take it to our local Just Between Friends consignment sale. I already have 120 pieces of clothing there but I have a few more things that I just finished sewing plus a toddler bed to drop off. I love JBF because I am able to shop at thrift stores for nice children's clothing for really cheap, clean them up and then sale them there for a decent profit. It's also a nice place to sell some of the stuff that I make as well.

  • Corset madness Part 2

It's not 100% done yet but here is as close as it will get for the next couple weeks since I have a crap load of other projects that are taking priority at the moment:

I added the straps to test out how they would look on the formal dress I am planning to make. I'm not liking the placement of them right now so they might get moved an inch or two toward the center.

I also need to add a zipper so that it's easier to put on and get better cord for the lacing in the back. Right now I have thin black ribbon laced in back, but the piece is way too long and the wrong color.

Here is a purse that I had laying around, unfinished for the longest time. It's finally done and ready to go

@CrunchyMountainMomma - Sorry to hear that she passed away. Its been about the same amount of time since my grandmother passed as well, time goes by so quickly and yet it still feels like yesterday. I would have loved to talk to her about what it was like in the 40's. In the 10 years that I was in t

Unfortunately, she passed away 17 years ago. That was when I learned she'd been a Marine. Her life story amazes me. She was an incredible lady. I don't know how you guys do it!

@CrunchyMountainMomma - Wow! Next time you talk to her tell her that I said "Thank You!" I know that the experiences I had in the current day Marine Corps were nothing like what she experienced. And if it weren't for the women who wanted to Marines back then, I could never have spent 10 years in tha
